DSWD EYES SUCCESSFUL KALAHI-CIDSS MUNICIPALITIES FOR ONE YEAR MAKAMASANG TUGON PROJECT

The municipalities in Region Eight that have successfully completed the three cycles of the KALAHI-CIDSS: KKB Project are invited to submit their Letter of Intent to participate in the MAKAMASANG TUGON Modality Scale-Up. The successful pilot implementation of the Makamasang Tugon in Balangiga and Maslog in 2009 paved the way for the Project roll-out this year.

As of this report, fifteen municipalities can sign up for the Makamasang Tugon Project to be implemented this year. Currently, the towns of Laoang, San Roque, and Mondragon, all in Northern Samar will benefit from the Project.

Interested municipalities should submit their Letter of Intent, 2009 Local Government Performance Management System Report, Performance Reports, Status Reports on Compliance of the KALAHI-CIDSS Sustainability Implementation, and Status Report on Compliance of Exit MOA with the DSWD Field Office. These requirements will be the bases for the screening and selection process to be done by the KALAHI-CIDSS: KKB Regional Project Management Team.

According to DSWD Regional Director Leticia Corillo, the Makamasang Tugon is an incentive given to KALAHI-CIDSS municipalities with outstanding LGU and BLGU performance. The additional funds from Makamasang Tugon will give these municipalities more opportunities to implement community projects that would improve the lives of the people in the barangay and advance the municipalities’ economic standing.

The Makamasang Tugon infuses local development planning and budgeting processes with the KALAHI-CIDSS approach of Community Driven Development. The project will be implemented for a year in the municipalities that qualify for the participation in the project. Deadline for the submission of reports and other requirements is on August 4, 2010.
