Some 52 farmers were awarded 10 dairy Bulgarian buffaloes for a dairy production enterprise from the DSWD Sustainable Livelihood Program during the turn – over ceremony last June 23, 2017 at the Visayas State University (VSU) in Baybay, Leyte.
The said recipients belong to the three Sustainable Livelihood Program Associations (SLPA) in Pastrana , Leyte, namely: Daycas, Colawen Pangkabuhayan and Maricum Pantawid Associations.

The DSWD was made as conduit of said assistance coming from the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC).

The PCC will extend technical support along health, management, breeding, dairy production, record keeping, product development, and marketing for a sustainable Carabao- based Enterprise Development (CBED).

The local government unit of Pastrana and the DSWD, however,  expressed concern that there is a need for other interventions while farmer beneficiaries await for the milk production.

According to Dr. Abela, Director of PCC -VSU,  buffaloes produce milk only once a year or even within more than a year.

To address this concern, the team have come up with an approach to indulge the farmers into crop production for short – term but high valued crops.  The undertaking is in tandem with the Municipal Agricultural Office for the needed agricultural inputs/ logistics.
Among those who attended the ceremony were: Dr. Julius Abela, Director of PCC VSU, Rex Tan who is SB Member and in-charge for Committee on Agriculture, Nona Petilla, Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officer, Roland Uy, SLP Provincial Coordinator of Leyte 2, Noel Villones, External Relations Officer, Francis Ibanita, Special External Relation Officer, Aliver Idano, Community Driven Enterprise Development Officer, Annaliza Tindoy, Implementing Project Development Officer, and Althea Lantaca ,Monitoring Project Development Officer, Pantawid Municipal Links, officers and members of the recipient -associations.#  #DSWDMayMalasakit
