Tacloban City, September 12, 2017 –  Takbo Kalahi Champions Run was conducted simultaneously in all KALAHI CIDSS  Sub-Region Program Management Offices, specifically in five key cities and one capital municipality namely: Tacloban City, Ormoc City, Maasin City, Borongan City, Catbalogan City and Catarman, Northern Samar.

The DSWD Kalahi-CIDSS conducted the advocacy run dubbed as Takbo Kalahi, with the theme, “Community Volunteerism is Millennial Heroism.”

In Tacloban City, the 5-kilometer run started at the Leyte Provincial Capitol to Sto. Nino Shrine, and back to the starting point.  The run was led by DSWD Regional Director Restituto Macuto.

In his speech,  Dir. Macuto acknowledged all Kalahi-CIDSS Community Volunteers, DSWD staff,  and all participants for their support on the campaign for Volunteerism and Community-Driven Development (CDD) adaptation.

The CDD is a strategy being utilized by the program and proven effective by community members and stakeholders themselves.

He also reminded everyone, especially the community volunteers,  that they are the heroes of our country because of the effort they’ve exerted for the progress of the community. Hence, the reason why the activity was set before August 28, National Heroes Day.

After the fun run, games,  and a Knowledge Fair followed.  Said fair was participated by some of the municipalities of Leyte. Booths and other materials representing their respective municipalities were installed.

Also, free services such as massage, manicure and pedicure from the Sustainable Livelihood Program beneficiaries were extended.#
