DSWD, together with the C/MSWDOS (City/ Municipal Social Welfare and Development Officers) and the Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officers (LDRRMOs) recently conducted a planning activity for the rehabilitation of Urduja survivors.

The objective of this planning activity is the implementation of a cash-for- work (CFW) program. The CFW is a short-term intervention program which aims to provide temporary employment to distressed/ displaced individuals whose
houses were rendered, either partially or totally damaged, due to typhoon Urduja.

The CFW is accomplished by engaging disaster-affected families in preparedness, mitigation, relief, rehabilitation or risk reduction projects and activities in their communities or in evacuation centers. In exchange for the work rendered, program recipients are provided with cash to meet their requirement for food and other basic necessities.

This program aims to encourage participation in a community-driven project to generate temporary employment, income generation, and to assist in the restoration of damaged shelters and facilities. The target for this project is 1 person per family for all families with damaged houses. The rate of assistance is at P214.00 per person per day, which is 75% of the current daily minimum wage of Region VIII.

The beneficiaries could earn P3,210.00 for families with partially damaged houses, or P6,420.00 for families with totally damaged houses.

The projects will focus on community development, such as the establishment of small-scale infrastructures like daycare centers, barangay halls, health centers, mosques and cultural heritages.#
