Four years after super typhoon Yolanda, the Reception and Study Center for Children (RSCC) at Pawing in Palo, Leyte is far more better and safer to live. The international community had come into the picture to shower blessings of the once devastated temporary home for neglected, surrendered, abused, abandoned and orphaned children who are six years old and below. Nida Jusay, Center Head, revealed that the DSWD institution is now elevated to six feet high, expanded and improved. Last week, a blessing and inauguration rites for the Phase III construction were conducted, with top officials from Kaisahang Buhay Foundation, Incorporated attending. The KBFI is the partner entity of the Netherlands – private donor organization – Weredkinderin. DSWD Regional Director Restituto Macuto emphasized that part of the agency’s priorities is building its residential care facilities to become centers of excellence. He said, “RSCC is committed to providing effective programs and services for children victims of abuse and whose life & safety are at risk, developing competence in different discipline in handling cases of child abuse, and providing appropriate placement whether it be with their families or other alternative placement.” Social worker, Myla Banasta, bared that currently there are 17 older children and eight nursery kids under its custody. Last April 5, she said, a couple from Netherlands arrived to fetch one child from the center. She added that more children, who have been declared legally available for adoption, are waiting to be matched. If you have a heart to take a child needing a permanent home, please feel free to visit the DSWD Field Office VIII at Magsaysay Boulevard in Tacloban. #DSWDMayMalasakit #DSWDParaSaNakakarami
