Today (February 6, 2019) – Municipalities of Anahawan and Bontoc in Southern Leyte, Tabontabon in Leyte and Catubig in Northern Samar entered a Memorandum of Agreement with DSWD Kalahi CIDSS for its new implementation Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (KKB) under NCDDP during the KKB MOA Signing.

Kalahi CIDSS-KKB still contributes to the overall objective of the program in empowering the poor most especially the vulnerable and marginalized communities to achieve improved access to services and increase their participation through local planning, budgeting and disaster risk reduction management.

Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (KKB) focuses on the support the micro-enterprises and livelihood-related initiatives and sub-projects which have potential in generating and diversifying income of households. It is inevitable to say that in any poverty reduction strategy, income generation is an essential element.

The Eastern Visayas is given a fund allocation of 2, 677, 478.25 benefiting four aforementioned municipalities. Implementation of the sub-projects and activities shall follow the existing KC-NCDDP implementation manuals and issuances.

More than the anticipated sub-projects, DSWD hopes that this implementation also strengthens the partnership with LGUs in advocating forCommunity-Driven Development through the signing of Partnership Manifesto.

Kalahi CIDSS Regional Program Coordinator and OIC-Division Chief of Promotive Services Natividad G. Sequito said in her welcome address, “Today, once again, we formally forge our commitment with you our partners. May this partnership pay another round of best implementation and best practices empowering commitment of our communities to face the challenge of defining development steering their own path toward sustaining poverty-reduction activities.”  

Regional Director Yvonne Serrano-Abonales has emphasized in her keynote speech that the KKB implementation heeds a call to continue advocating for community empowerment thru CDD.  She also hopes for the success of the implementation for it is also a triumph of the people.

On the other hand, the LGUs thru their Local Chief Executives expressed their appreciation towards the opportunity of being selected as beneficiaries of this implementation. For them, this is also an opportunity to push for pro-poor and people-centered initiatives through livelihood-related sub-projects.
