After successfully providing relief items to the evacuees at San Jose De Buan last March 21, 2019 (see https://fo8.dswd.gov.ph/…/dswd-distributes-relief-to-san-j…/), the Department of Social Welfare and Development returned to the municipality this week to conduct the second wave of relief distribution. This distribution was prompted by the arrival of additional evacuees coming from Brgy. Can-Aponte.

Based on the initial reports received, originally there were 147 families affected – 44 from Brgy. Hagbay and 103 from San Nicolas. However additional families from Brgy. Can-Aponte arrived at the evacuation site, during the initial relief distribution. After revalidation, the Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (MSWDO) was able to confirm that 247 families were affected – 44 from Brgy. Hagbay, 119 from Brgy. San Nicolas and 84 from Brgy. Can-Aponte. Over-all, 988 individuals were affected.

Together with the staff of the MSWDO, DSWD’s Disaster Response Management Division (DRMD) was able to distribute P288,575.10 worth of relief goods. This includes a total of 405 family food packs, 300 blankets and 6 sacks of used clothing. Each family food pack contains 6 kilos of rice, 4 cans of corned beef, 4 cans of beef/meat loaf and 6 sachets of coffee. These family food packs are good for a family of 5 for 2 to 3 days. Staff from the local and provincial governments were present to provide additional relief goods.

Currently, DSWD staff are coordinating with the MSWDO for any updates regarding the situation, as most of the evacuees have begun to return home on March 27, 2019.

DSWD would like to extend its gratitude to the troops from the Alpha Company, 87th Infantry Battalion for their assistance in distributing the relief goods.
