The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Eastern Visayas joined the 2025 YES Fair and Book Fiesta in Catbalogan City as part of the annual Samar Day Celebration.
Sangguniang Kabataan members and students from various primary and secondary schools across the province gathered at Samar Convention Center for the two-day activity on August 8-9, 2025.
The Department’s Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP) joined the fair together with other local book exhibitors.
The field office here showcased the program’s various knowledge products such as guidebooks for tutors and Youth Development Workers (YDWs) and workbooks for learners and parents. Games with prizes were also prepared so booth visitors will enjoy.
This year, the department has deployed a total of 657 college students in Samar for the reading tutorials and Nanay-Tatay Sessions conducted between May 19 to June 13, 2025 covering two cities and 12 municipalities in the province.
TBTP is a reformatted educational assistance for college students from low-income families who will be deployed as tutors and YDWs to conduct reading tutorials to struggling or non-reader pupils and carry out the Nanay-Tatay sessions to the parents of the learners.
In return, the student-beneficiaries receive a daily pay equivalent to the Regional Daily Minimum Wage covering the 20-day learning sessions.
