Persons with disabilities (PWDs), the time is here for you to shine!
PWDs Got Talent !, a project of the Regional Committee for Disability Affairs (RCDA), will showcase the exceptional talents and skills of persons with disabilities come Thursday, July 21, at 2 : 00 p.m. at the Robinson’s Place in Tacloban City. The activity is one of the contributions of the Committee, headed by the DSWD Field Office Eight, at making the 33rd National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week more meaningful.
RCDA chairperson, Regional Director Leticia Corillo of the DSWD Field Office Eight, said that PWDs are gifted with certain abilities which society fails to recognize and give importance. “Let us give them a chance for them to be able to display their skills, “Corillo further stated.
She emphasized that PWDs should be given equal rights and opportunities like everyone else – not only on the areas of health, education, employment, accessibility, personal mobility, rehabilitation, and participation in political life, but breaking all social barriers ! “Preventing them from “fitting in” and being accepted is disabling in itself“, Corillo added.
Those interested must register first with Elsie Abellera, chairperson of the regionwide competition, with contact numbers at telephone number 327-0171 or 0919-405-9055. The first ten to register will be included.
