Employees of the DSWD Field Office 8, mostly social workers, in one of the Labor Day celebrations.DSWD Field Office Eight Regional Director Leticia Diokno today calls on all public social workers, as well as those social workers in private institutions or welfare agencies, to join in the opening of the Professional Regulations Week (PRC) Week set on Saturday, June 16 of this year.

She made this appeal, if only to emphasize the social work as a noble profession,   and the valuable role of social workers in national development. Said Diokno, “Let us do our share in the advancement of the social work profession ! Let us be proud that we are social workers by being one in the observance of PRC Week.”

The opening of the PRC Week will begin with a taebo session at 5 : 30 a.m. at the Tacloban Convention Center followed by a Holy Mass at the Redemptorist Church, and a forum at the Patio Victoria, all in Tacloban City. She bared that the PRC will provide a light breakfast, while lunch will be potluck.

Diokno mentioned that the local chapter of the Philippine Association of Social Workers, Incorporated (PASWI) should take active part in the celebration. She also cited that government social workers, specially, should be thankful that there is a Magna Carta that looks into their welfare. However, the local government units must support the said law for the benefit of their respective social workers.
