Mayor Elpidio Cabal, Jr committed to support the implementation of Kalahi-CIDSS project in Hindang, and encouraged the barangay officials to do the same.The municipality of Hindang, Leyte launched the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (Kalahi-CIDSS) project on August 24, 2012 at the Hindang Municipal Gymnasium.

The activity kicked off with a motorcade around the town which was participated by the municipal officials and employees of the different departments in the Local Government Unit (LGU), the Area Coordinating Team (ACT) and the Municipal Coordinating Team (MCT), and the barangay officials and representatives of the different sectors.

An orientation on the background, objectives and principles, and other mechanisms of the Kalahi-CIDSS project followed at the gymnasium after the motorcade.

Hindang Municipal Mayor Elpidio Cabal, Jr. expressed his gratitude for being chosen as one of the recipient of the project. “We have always wanted this Kalahi-CIDSS project here in Hindang. Although we were not lucky in the random selection process last year, we are thankful that one municipality waived.”

In a message delivered by Board Member Florante Cayunda, who represented Leyte Governor Jericho Petilla, he emphasized the importance of Kalahi-CIDSS as a proven and effective tool in reducing poverty in the community. “Using the community driven development (CDD) approach, Kalahi-CIDSS brought out changes and development especially in the disadvantaged sector not only in the municipalities of Leyte but also in other parts of the country. As a public official, I commit to continually support the implementation of the project”, he added.

After the declaration of commitment and support, a tarpaulin that says Hindang is a Kalahi-CIDSS municipality was unveiled. Everyone who participated in the said event also affixed their signatures on a tarpaulin to signify their commitment and support to the project.

Kalahi-CIDSS is a government project spearheaded by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD). It uses the Community Driven Development (CDD) approach and aims to empower the community, improve local governance and reduce poverty.
