A total of 10,172 persons of 2,192 families in Region eight were reported affected by tropical storm Ofel last Ocotber 24, 2012. DSWD Regional Director Leticia Diokno said the field office was on red alert, awaiting for any local government unit that could not cope up with the effects of the disaster; hence, needs augmentation support.

Pauline Nadera, the focal person for Disaster Risk Reduction Management Program reported extending augmentation relief aid this week to Sogod town of Southern Leyte province. Sogod had a total of 34 families of 1,268 individuals coming from nine barangays affected by the typhoon.

Regionwide, there were 895 families who sought temporary shelter in evacuation centers. So far, there were only two totally damaged houses and three partially damaged houses.

Nadera said that reports reaching the field office revealed that Tacloban City had provided emergency relief assistance to its 324 families of 1,620 individuals coming from 11 barangays. The aid amounted to sixty-four thousand and eight hundred pesos.

On the other hand, Palo municipality in Leyte extended five thousand peso worth of relief aid to some 324 families of 488 individuals coming also from 11 barangays.
