Who says baking is solely for women?
Some male and female employees of the DSWD Field Office Eight, who were interested to know the art of baking, attended a half-day skills training held recently at the Home for Girls, located within the DSWD Institution Complex at Pawing, Palo. The participants had a hands-on try at making a simple Banana Crunch Cake. The activity, which was part of the observance of the National Women’s Month, was meant to raise awareness on some gender issues that limit the roles of men and women in what used to be their respective stereotyped functions.
Earlier, a competition on troubleshooting computers was launched at the Field Office, with both male and female employees pitting each other’s talents on the trade. There were also contests on candle-making and cooking by both gender, still at the Home for Girls.
Of course, sports activities filled this March to mark a long celebration of Women’s Month. Such is our way of making our observance more meaningful, Policy and Plans Division Chief, Yvonne Abonales, reported.
As a way of making it more significant, the DSWD Field Office Eight has embarked on a Training on Gender Sensitivity at the Hotel Alejandro in Tacloban City. No less than the Men Opposed to Violence Everywhere (MOVE) DSWD Field Office Eight Chapter, under president Federico Pagayanan, initiated the activity, which saw some thirty husbands of employees participating.
Said Pagayanan, this is not the first time that the agency conducted said training. “We need to keep on reminding ourselves so all of us will be able to imbibe the right attitudes and beliefs.
