As part of the observance of the National Women’s Month this March, focal persons handling women’s programs from the DSWD Field Office VIII guested yesterday, March 7, in the weekly “kapihan” of the Philippine Information Agency ) P.I.A. dubbed as “Panginsayod.” The media forum was hosted by P.I.A. Regional Manager, Alice Nicart.

DSWD was awarded as the Most Outstanding Gender – Responsive Agency by the Philippine Commission on Women in 2014.

Said Planning Officer III, Gilbert Villamor, (who represented Regional Director, Restituto Macuto) “over the years, DSWD has incorporated gender and development aspects in its core programs namely the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program, Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan-Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS), and Sustainable Livelihood Program.”

As part of the program implementation, these core programs formulated their GAD plans to ensure that women-beneficiaries are capacitated and provided with the opportunity to participate in leadership action and in decision-making opportunities within their communities.

In a recent interview, Villamor bared that the agency thru its Policy and Plans Division under Division Chief, Yvonne Abonales, is going round the region to promote laws on women, particularly the Magna Carta on Women. It is now conducting an orientation in Barugo, Leyte.
