After the initial distribution
of the Php 5 K financial assistance from the Office of the President in Tacloban last March, eligible Yolanda survivors from other parts of the region have now started receiving their cash grants. Last June 8 of this year, 43 of the 46 beneficiaries from Tanauan, Leyte have claimed their assistance, using their cash cards issued by the Land Bank. Theo Felices, Administrative Officer of the Disaster Response and Management Unit, revealed that for those areas with beneficiaries without cash cards, the DSWD will send a team to conduct the cash pay – out. He added that in other areas, checks will be given instead. From the DSWD’s validated list, a total of 41, 600 were found eligible for assistance, from the total of 61, 916 who filed their petitions. It is targeted that by the end of July, the job will be finished. DSWD Regional Director, Restituto Macuto, said that the recipients would finally be able to rebuild their lives, after fighting it out for three years, their claim for Emergency Shelter Assistance.
