The Regional Haven at the DSWD Institution Complex in Palo, Leyte conducted some activities in support of the Family Week on the last week of September, this year, for women – residents to make them realize the importance of the family, and the need to strengthen relationships among family members.
Luz Davis, officer-in-charge of this halfway home for women – victims of abuse/exploitation, said that most of the 22 residents suffered from domestic violence and sexual abuse. “They ought to be reminded again and again that the family plays a vital role in making the home a safe abode where children as well as the mothers are protected by among themselves,” Davis pointed out.
Film showings of the Maricel Soriano – starrer “Abandonada” and “Inang Yaya” were done last month, after which the residents were made to write a reaction on said movies, and how it relate to their lives.
There were also lectures on the value of the family as well as duties and responsibilities of parents to their children, with Lolit Dadap and Gina Ogay of the DSWD Field Office Eight as resource persons.
