Kalahi-CIDSS seawall saves one community amidst TS Nona

A total of 275 households from barangay Barubaybay in Lavezares town were spared from the wrath and destruction of Typhoon Nona when it made landfall in Northern Samar Province, December 14, 2015.

This was made possible due to Kalahi-CIDSS’ 97-Linear meter Seawall which was constructed by the community folks themselves.

Small village across Batag Island in Laoang spared from Nona’s wrath through Kalahi-CIDSS projects

Brgy. Aguadahan, Laoang in Northern Samar is just 30-minute boat ride away from Batag Island where Tropical Storm Nona made landfall on December 14, 2015.

Though categorized as a small village with only 188 households, said barangay was able to received four sub-projects under DSWD’s poverty alleviation program, Kalahi-CIDSS (Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services).

Kalahi-CIDSS’ school buildings withstood TS Nona

A total of 25 families took refuge into Kalahi-CIDSS school buildings in Brgy. Arellano in Bobon town, the day Tropical Storm Nona hit the Northern Samar province.

Rosana Bumacod, 41, said she was very thankful when the school buildings were completed since the project was for their children’s education. But, Rosana never thought the project could also serve their community during disasters like that of TS Nona.

Updates on DSWD Assistance to Northern Samar

Spearheading the DSWD relief operations in Northern Samar, Assistant Regional Director for Operations Restituto Macuto bared today the latest assistanc12140943_1204901826193386_465136181364457154_oe extended to Northern Samar.

N. SAMAR reports 7, 414 totally damaged houses; 28 evacuation centers remain

With a total of 7, 414 houses wrecked down by typhoon Nona, there are still some 2, 349 families of 9, 371 individuals temporarily staying at 28 evacuation centers of N10295560_1204874549529447_7084875251910992564_o (1)orthern Samar province. The DSWD’s Disaster Response Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) also bared some 80, 405 houses from same province which were partially damaged.

DSWD continues to respond to calls for augmentation

Assistant Regional Director for Operations Restituto Macuto returned to field office yesterday night from his land and aerial survey in the Samar provinces, with updates tha12371203_1649016365370315_3300913798115112098_ot a total of 72 evacuation centers have already closed and a total of 3,690 families have now returned to their respective homes.

Now, there are just 51 existing evacuation centers with 4,025 affected families in Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and (Western) Samar.
