How do you best handle work-related stress?
At the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the nature of work demands that employees respond quickly to disasters, provides service to address social issues and commits to improve the situation of the poor and marginalized sector in the country. Everyone has their fair share of stress and difficult situation.
The Policy and Plans Division, headed by Division Chief Yvonne Abonales, recently organized a team building activity at the Tadyaw Beach Resort, Tolosa, Leyte. This activity was aimed to improve teamwork in the division and to determine factors causing stress and to help its members address it effectively.
DC Abonales proposed ways to build happier and dedicated members of the PPD. She believes in the importance of creating a friendly workplace where everyone performs, learns and grows.
Neliosa Cuartel-Guarda, resource speaker from the Department of Health, emphasized the importance to recognize the stimuli which cause stress and anger. When these conditions remain unmanaged, these affect relationships among teammates, impeding work efficiency and productivity. She also gave tips on the proper management of stress and anger. Guarda facilitated a game wherein trust and honesty are encouraged. Another activity allowed members to vent stressors and share individual coping mechanisms.
