The DSWD Field Office Eight, as chair of the Regional Council on Disability Affairs, (RCDA) reported today that the region will be packed with varied activities to mark the 37th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week.

The launching will be held this Monday, July 20, 2015 via a motorcade which will start at eight o’clock in the morning, from the RTR Plaza in Tacloban. It will end at the DPWH regional Office at Candahug in Palo where a mass and opening program will be held.

Also, there will be a consultation – dialogue on same venue. All member – agencies of RCDA are expected to be in this gathering to be able to present their respective programs for the benefit of persons with disabilities(PWDs). Said Ben Calzado, focal person for the DSWD’s program for PWDs, the different provincial and city federation of PWD – associations will be attending the activities lined – up for the week.
After the dialogue, there will be an awarding of assistive devices for PWDs.

On the other hand, the public will be treated to a regionwide solo singing competition on July 21, 2015 at three o’clock to six o’clock in the evening at the Robinson’s Place in Tacloban. DSWD Field Office Eight Director Nestor Ramos said the battle of talents will showcase the PWDs’ singing ability, despite their disabilities.

Another event which will be something to look forward to is the regional sports competition for PWDs on July 22, 2015 in Tacloban City. Venue will be announced later.

The week will be capped with a culminating program, and a consultation – dialogue on Republic Act 10070 which calls for the establishment of a Person with Disability Affairs Office (PDAO) in every municipality or city.This year’s observance has for its theme “Tungo sa Katuparan ng Karapatan ng PWDs“
