Dahlia A Bangon FarmsExactly two years after Yolanda, Dahlia Atok of Brgy. Concepcion, Ormoc City has not only rebuild her house. She has also rebuild her family’s life thru better livelihood. This was made possible thru the Bangon Mini Farm Project, a product of DSWD-Sustainable Livelihood Program’s (SLP) partnership with Landbank and other stakeholders. Through this project, farmers like Dahlia can continue their agriculture business thru organic farming and organic swine/poultry production. But aside from this project, Dahlia has also received a sum of P260 per day for a maximum of 15 days as part of the Cash for Building Livelihood Assets (CBLA) of DSWD which is an early intervention to Yolanda affected families. Another P10,000 worth of farm materials were also given to 13 lead farmers like Dahlia thru SLP’s Enterprise Capital Assistance (ECA) in order for them to start their new organic farming venture. “Masaya ako dahil ito talaga ang gusto ko…ang farming. Ngayon kumikita na kami ng PhP 2000 weekly sa ilang klase pa lang yan ng crops namin”, proudly shared But the help provided to Dahlia does not only stop there. As a lead farmer, she has extended the technology of the project and shared the blessings of her farm by hiring two Pantawid Pamilya program beneficiaries who are student workers. Every weekend, these students work as her partner-farmers with a daily salary of P160. “Ngayon nakakatulong na ako sa iba. Na-share ko pa ang bagong teknolohiya ng organic farming”. In Ormoc City alone, a total of 120 farmers have already availed themselves of the CBLA. In order to sustain this innovative livelihood project, DSWD continue to extend technical assistance to them like financial management and the establishment of farmer’s association and soon a cooperative.
