CALBAYOG CITY – To commemorate 42 years of its existence, Region VIII’s Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines, Inc. (PYAP) holds a five-day Capacity Building seminar-workshop on Gender and Development (GAD) and Social Welfare and Development (SWD) Laws at the Miraculous Hot Springs Resort, this city, from August 30 to September 3, 2016.
The 70 participants from all over Region VIII were provided with updates on the thrusts and priorities of the National PYAP Federation for 2016 – 2017, the latest information on sexual and non-sexual behavior of the Eastern Visayas youth, inputs on self-awareness, particularly on the four basic temperaments, basic knowledge on RA 10364 (The Anti-trafficking Law), RA 9262 (Anti-VAWC Law and related laws), anti-Child Pornography, RA 9165 and related matters, and the basic knowledge of Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DRRM). The workshop also focused on fostering camaraderie and oneness in purpose for the region’s youth.
As part of its activity, the Regional PYAP also elected a new set of officers for 2016 to 2018. The newly designated President is Dave Mercado of Tacloban City; the Vice-President is Samuel Tan Haclop of Catbalogan City; Secretary is Jomari Belda of Lope de Vega, Northern Samar; Treasurer is Renier Jay Novella of Alang-alang, Leyte; Auditor is Kirk Jude Yabao of Calbayog City; Business Manager is Maria Janice Duena of Gandara, Samar; P.R.Os are Alden Dela Rosa of Borongan City, Simon Gabon of Paranas, Samar and Rhea Sylvia Rapsing of Pambujan, N. Samar.
In their speeches, the elected officials vowed to do the best that they could for the association, but they would need financial support and guidance from the agency and the LGU for their activities, they said.
This regional seminar-workshop is an annual activity of the PYAP, and its host for 2016 is Calbayog City.
The Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines, Inc., is a duly constituted barangay based organization of the out-of-school youth between 15-24 years old. The members of these association are also partners/beneficiaries of the DSWD.
According to its Federation Guidelines, the PYAP was first incorporated on July 29, 1974 with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) under the name of the Pag-asa Youth Movement, Inc., an affiliate organization of DSWD. As a result of innovative programs and services and further strengthening the capabilities of the youth program, the PYM Inc. changed its name to PYAP, Inc. based on its new SEC Registration No. 01328, approved on April 12, 1996.
