Opening day of Elderly Filipino Week at SaveMore – Tacloban, with the DSWD, as chair of the Regional Coordinating and Monitoring Board (RCMB), spearheading the event. Advocacy on the Centenarian Law by the DSWD, Vaccination for Older Persons by the DOH, Programs and Services for Senior Citizens by the PHILHEALTH, and the Accessibility Law by the DPWH was done during the half – day forum held Saturday, October 1, 2016. Ben Calzado, DSWD focal person for senior citizens welfare, announced that as of to date, there are 58 senior citizens who are 100 and above years old reported in the region. He encouraged other local government units to submit their list of centenarians to the DSWD Field Office VIII, especially with the approval of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of Republic Act 10868 or the Centennarian Law last September 26 of this year. Added Calzado, effective 2017, a cash of Php100,000.00 and other incentives will be given to centenarians.
