The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VIII (DSWD FO8) on August 4, 2017 has given the P5,000 financial assistance to the 26 drug surrenderers from the City Government’s New Beginnings Rehabilitation Program. The said amount serves as help for their basic needs, such as travel expense going to the rehab center.

DSWD Regional Director Restituto Macuto asked the drug rehab outpatients to continue the progress and transformation that they are doing for more than a year. He ensured that the national and local government are always willing to provide help and support to avert them from going back to the said vice and for faster facilitation, he asked them to never hesistate to come to the office to open up the problem and seek for assistance.

Meanwhile, City Mayor Cristina Romualdez during the conversation told the surrenderers to convince those who are still struggling to stop the addiction to undergo training and rehabilitation to change their life. Also, Mayor Romualdez is planning to conduct an activity in partnership with DSWD wherein these people will be giving testimonies to the youth sector as part of the anti-drug campaign.

Upon graduating from the rehab, surrenderers will still be monitored and go through skills profiling and other tests so they could still avail assistance. Director Macuto asked them to maintain the right attitude and discipline, cooperation and determination in order to continously live a renewed life, which the livelihood and other assistance will be a big help to never look back to the past habit. #DSWDMayMalasakit
