SAINT BERNARD, Southern Leyte- Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) turned over to this municipality, a barangay road with drainage canal, at Barangay Tambis I.
The PhP 1.8 Million project, funded under the Kapangyarihan at Kaunlaran sa Barangay (KKB), of the DSWD Kalahi-CIDSS program, will benefit 217 households.
Mayor Manuel Calapre in his message extended his gratitude towards DSWD for its continuous assistance in “improved access to services to poor barangays”.
Mayor Calapre also expressed the collective effort of the community residents and Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU), with support from the Sangguniang Bayan, in the realization of their project.
On other hand, Kalahi-CIDSS volunteer Enrique Maglunob shared in his talk that their community prioritized the improvement of barangay road with drainage canal as their project, for safety and sanitation reasons.
Before the Kalahi-CIDSS intervention, the people worried for their lives, especially for their children due to the slippery road, especially during rainy days. The road developed potholes and cracks due to the absence of a drainage canal.
Today, with the improvement of the barangay road and drainage canal, community folks will not worry anymore for their safety, he said.
Maglunob added that the construction of drainage canal also means a lot to them as there would be no longer mosquito breeding areas, which pose health risks to people of this community.
Also present in the ceremony are DSWD representative Ritchard Suan, village chief Maximo Ticod, and the community volunteers.
