DSWD Eastern Visayas recently monitored the pilot implementation of the Risk Resilience Program (RRP) in Salcedo, Eastern Samar.

Under the program, 18 barangays in Salcedo, Eastern Samar, have established communal gardens, while one barangay has begun the renovation of its existing water infrastructure. Each barangay has only nine beneficiaries.

DSWD implements the RRP using the Cash-for-Work (CFW) modality to strengthen the adaptive capacities of poor families in disaster-prone communities.

CFW is a short-term intervention used to provide temporary employment to unskilled and semi-skilled workers in exchange for community works rendered related to climate change adaptation, mitigation, and disaster risk reduction. The beneficiaries will be given an amount equivalent to the regional wage rate for a maximum of 10 days of work.

Meanwhile, RRP orientation was conducted in the neighboring towns of Mercedes and Guiuan.

Eastern Samar is one of the priority provinces for RRP implementation for its high susceptibility to climate hazards and high poverty incidence.
