The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VIII spearheaded the culminating activity for the DSWD Tara, Basa Tutoring Program implementation in Samar Province on Thursday, August 22, 2024.
Over 200 tutors and Youth Development Workers from Samar State University (SSU) received recognition after successfully conducting the 20-day learning sessions for grade schoolers and their parents from July 1-26, 2024.
Partner stakeholders including the Department of Education (DepEd) – Region VIII, DepEd Samar Division, DepEd Catbalogan City Division, SSU, the provincial government of Samar, and the 21 recipient local government units were also recognized for their support and commitment to the program.
In her testimonial speech, Mercy Navidad, a parent from Catbalogan City expressed her gratitude for the learning experience both for her and her child.
“I have seen how my child and the other learners were improving every day. As parents, the Nanay-Tatay sessions served as a learning avenue for us where we got to share our experiences at home and learn from them. The incentive I received helped me provide school supplies for my child especially I am a single parent,” she said.
Meanwhile, Riamae Bumanglag, a tutor from SSU said the program served as opportunity for them to contribute to nation building.
“I am thankful that we are now part of the nation building of the government. Even in short period of time, we were able to share our wisdom, knowledge, and understanding that our school has also imparted us,” she said in her testimony.
Overall, the program served a total 1,981 learners, 1977 parents, and 375 college students across two cities and 19 municipalities in Samar province. ###
