The DSWD Field Office 8 held a Kick-off activity in line with the Indigenous People Month Celebration, on October 2, 2024 at the Regional Operations Center (ROC), Government Center, Candahug, Leyte.

During the activity, Atty. Jonalyndie Chua, Head of the Legal Office, discussed the salient features of Republic Act 8371. Further, Lorfel Penaranda, Project Development Officer, shared the practical tips on working with the IP communities.

DSWD is one with the National Commission on Indigeneous People (NCIP) to improve their well-being through various social protection efforts.

Meanwhile, DSWD launched the Mobile Photography contest featuring the IP communities.

Other activities planned for the month-lP Month celebration were also shared such as the Orientation on Cultural Sensitivity for frontline service providers, showcasing of the sucess story of IP community member, and the Culminating Activity, etc.

In his message, Assistant Regional Director for Operations Antonio Dolaota vowed that the DSWD will continue to help uplift the well-being and promote the rights of the Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) through social protection efforts and initiatives.
