The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has served a total of 4,333 individuals during its pilot implementation of Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program in Samar Province.

This includes 1,981 struggling to read or non-reader incoming Grade 2 pupils, 1,977 parents and guardians of the identified learners, and 350 college students from low income families.

During the simultaneous rollout in six expansion areas across the country, qualified students from selected state universities and colleges were deployed as tutors and Youth Development Workers (YDWs) to conduct the reading tutorials and Nanay-Tatay sessions to learners and their parents, respectively.

Under the cash-for-work scheme of DSWD, each student-beneficiary in Samar received PHP8,100, equivalent to the 20-day learning sessions they conducted from July 1-26, 2024.

Meanwhile, parents and guardians of the enlisted learners were provided a PHP235 daily allowance.

Overall, the DSWD Field Office 8 has released a total of 12.3 million for the cash-for-work.
