The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) has officially launched the Tara, Basa Tutoring Program (TBTP) in Tacloban City.

In a ceremonial signing of Memorandum of Agreement (MOA), the DSWD Field Office 8, Tacloban City Government, Leyte Normal University (LNU), and Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) formalized its collaboration on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at Ironwood Hotel this city.

Director Grace Subong led the activity, together with Dr. Evelyn Aguirre, LNU President; Dr. Dennis De Paz, EVSU President, and Hon. Raymund Romualdez, the LIGA President of Tacloban and Region 8 Chapter.

Dr. Sherlita Palma, Tacloban City Schools Division Superintendent, served as witness of the MOA signing.

This year, the DSWD will expand the program covering Samar province and the cities of Tacloban and Ormoc in Leyte with a total target of 1,508 college students, 5,040 learners, and 5,040 parents.

In her message, Director Subong expressed gratitude to all stakeholders for the positive feedback and steadfast commitment to the program.

“As what our partners have said, this is not a competition but to complement our efforts. Rest assured that we are alway here to support and address your concerns. This is just a start and we are looking forward for the future enhancement and expansion of the program,” she said.
