In line with the celebration of National Women’s Month, the DSWD Field Office 8 spearheaded another thought-provoking Purple Wednesday activity titled “Protecting Batang Juana: A Forum on Adolescent Pregnancy.” This activity brought together DSWD employees and various women’s federations to discuss the pressing issue of early pregnancy and its impact on young girls’ futures.

The forum featured Mr. Anastasio Lagumbay Jr. from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), who presented eye-opening statistical data on adolescent pregnancy and its increasing prevalence in our Eastern Visayas. His discussion highlighted the urgency of strengthening programs that promote awareness and prevention.

Dr. Miel Nora from Plan International Pilipinas shared valuable insights on adolescent rights, the importance of a strong support system, and protective measures that families and communities can take to safeguard the well-being of young girls. He emphasized that empowering Batang Juana means equipping them with the right knowledge and resources to make informed life choices.

The DSWD Field Office 8 remains steadfast in its advocacy to protect and empower every Batang Juana. Together, let us continue to champion the rights and welfare of young girls, ensuring they grow up in a safe, informed, and supportive environment.
