The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 8 successfully conducted “Juana sa Tahanan: A Talk on Women in Unpaid Care Work and Kasambahay Law Awareness” via blended platform, on 5 March 2025 at the Regional Operations Office, DSWD building Candahug, Palo, Leyte.
As part of the Purple Wednesday activities, the forum was attended by DSWD employees and KALIPI (Kalipunan ng Liping Pilipina) Women’s Federations in Region 8. It aims to highlight the economic value of unpaid care work, promote gender equality in household responsibilities, and raise awareness on the rights and protections of domestic workers under the Kasambahay Law.
Anastasio Lagumbay Jr. of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) presented statistical data on Women in Unpaid Care Work in the region, emphasizing that gender equality is not about pulling men down but about lifting women up. He also stressed that men must be included in the conversation—as women fully embrace their economic roles, men must also fully embrace their reproductive roles to achieve true equality.
Further, Katherine Singzon of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) discussed the Kasambahay Law wherein she underscored the need to raise awareness about this law to protect the rights of domestic workers, most of whom are women. Ensuring fair treatment and upholding their labor rights is crucial in promoting dignity and social justice. The discussions sparked meaningful conversations on gender equality, shared responsibilities, and the protection of women in both unpaid and paid care work.
The DSWD Field Office 8 remains committed to advocating for policies and programs that empower women and promote inclusivity in all sectors.
