In preparation for this year’s expansion of Tara, Basa Tutoring Program in Eastern Visayas, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) kicked off the series of Capability Building (CapBuild) activities for tutors and Youth Development Workers (YDWs).

A total of 477 student-beneficiaries from Leyte Normal University (LNU) and Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) both in Tacloban City joined the first batch of CapBuild scheduled until April 4, 2025.

The activity to capacitate and prepare them as tutors and YDWs who will conduct reading tutorials to struggling or non-reader pupils and carry out Nanay-Tatay sessions to the parents of the learners.

Through the cash-for-work component of the program, the student-beneficiaries will receive a daily pay equivalent to the Regional Daily Minimum Wage for the 20-day deployment between May 19 to June 14, 2025.

This year, the field office has a total target of 1,508 college students, 5,040 learners, and 5,040 parents covering Samar province and the cities of Tacloban and Ormoc.

Next week, the field office will conduct the same activity for EVSU Ormoc and City College of Ormoc, while the CapBuild for Samar State University and Northwest Samar State University in Samar is scheduled in the third week of April.###
