DSWD Eastern Visayas’ Haven for Women, in partnership with the Commission on Human Rights (CHR), recently conducted an orientation aimed at empowering both its staff and residents.

The orientation opened with the discussion of the roles and functions of the CHR; which was led by Mr. Joseph Roel C. Obrino. This was succeeded by an in-depth discussion of the laws protecting the rights of women and children, specifically the Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004 (Republic Act 9262) and Safe Spaces Act (Republic Act No. 11313) also known as the “Bawal Bastos Law”; which was led by Atty. Marjorie C. Legaspi.

These sessions provided valuable insights into the different forms of violence covered by the law, the legal remedies available, and the role of various institutions in addressing and preventing gender-based violence.

Haven for Women is one of DSWD Eastern Visayas’ Centers and Residential Care Facilities; which serves as a safe and supportive refuge for women who have experienced gender-based violence. It provides essential services such as temporary shelter, protection, and counseling; enabling survivors to regain their independence and restore their sense of self-worth.
