A total of 252 college students from Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) in Ormoc City received kits they will be using during their deployment as tutors under the Tara, Basa! tutoring Program (TBTP).
Each tutor received a tote bag containing an umbrella, tumbler, and various school supplies they can use in making instructional materials for the 20-day learning sessions from May 19 to June 14, 2025.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development led the distribution during the series of pre-deployment activities in Samar Province, and the cities of Tacloban and Ormoc since last week.
This year, DSWD has a total target of 1,512 college students, 5,040 learners, and 5,040 parents.
Other participating schools include Northwest Samar State University, Samar State University, Leyte Normal University, City College of Ormoc and EVSU Main Campus in Tacloban City.
TBTP is a reformatted educational assistance for college students from low-income families who will be deployed as tutors and YDWs to conduct reading tutorials to struggling or non-reader pupils and carry out the Nanay-Tatay sessions to the parents of the learners.
In return, the student-beneficiaries will receive a daily pay equivalent to the Regional Daily Minimum Wage for the 20-days learning sessions
