A total of 657 would-be tutors and Youth Development Workers (YDWs) under DSWD’s Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program in Samar province will undergo a 5-day Capability Building Activity from April 21-25, 2025.

Of the total number, 366 are qualified students from Samar State University (SSU) In Catbalogan City and 291 from Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) in Calbayog City.

The activity aims to capacitate and prepare them as tutors and YDWs who will conduct reading tutorials to struggling or non-reader pupils and carry out Nanay-Tatay sessions to the parents of the learners.

Through the cash-for-work component of the program, the student-beneficiaries will receive a daily pay equivalent to the Regional Daily Minimum Wage for the 20-day deployment between May 19 to June 14, 2025.

This year, the field office has a total target of 1,512 college students, 5,040 learners, and 5,040 parents covering Samar province and the cities of Tacloban and Ormoc.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and pool of trainers from the Department of Educations and partner state universities led the activities in NwSSU and SSU.
