The Municipality of Abuyog, Leyte commemorated the 3rd anniversary of Typhoon Agaton on12 April 2025, in Brgy. New Pilar, one of the communities most devastated by the typhoon in 2022.
Formerly Brgy. Pilar, the area was hit by deadly landslides and later relocated and renamed. Recovery efforts have since been supported by the Department of Social Welfare and Development’s Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP).
In 2023, three livelihood associations in Brgy. New Pilar received Seed Capital Fund (SCF) grants under the SLP Zero Hunger Program:
New Pilar Farmers Association: ₱185,000 for crop production;
New Pilar Resilient Association: ₱300,000 for motorcycle transport and Piso WiFi services; and
Brgy. Pilar Fisherfolks Association: ₱200,000 Livelihood Assistance Grant for a general merchandise store, now with ₱2.7 million in gross sales
These livelihood projects continue to grow with support from LGU Abuyog, Department of Trade and Industry, Abuyog Community College, and Cooperative Development Authority.
