The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VIII and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office VIII officially kicked off the implementation of Project Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished (LAWA at BINHI), in convergence with the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program today, April 24, in Tacloban City, with 1,500 beneficiaries expected to benefit from the initiative.

Organized through the assistance and efforts of the DOLE- North Leyte Field Office, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and the City Agriculture Office (CAO) of Tacloban, the kick-off event introduced beneficiaries to the project’s components and provided orientation on the convergence of the two agencies’ flagship programs. They were also given orientation on occupational safety and health.

Throughout the implementation, participants will engage in 20 days of work and receive compensation based on the region’s prevailing minimum wage. Their work will focus on projects that promote water sufficiency and address food insecurity, such as the construction of small farm reservoirs and the development of communal gardens.

The initiative aims to strengthen community resilience while providing livelihood support to vulnerable sectors affected by poverty and climate-related challenges.
