The active involvement of barangay officials is crucial to ensure that solo parents are properly identified, assisted, and able to fully access the benefits provided under the law. As part of the National Solo Parents Week celebration, the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office 8 conducted an orientation on the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act (RA 11861) for barangay officials in Biliran, Biliran.

The activity aimed to strengthen the role of barangays in implementing the law at the community level. Barangay officials were briefed on the qualifications, documentary requirements, and the benefits available for solo parents. They were also reminded of their key responsibilities, such as validating applicants, endorsing documents to the City or Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office (C/MSWDO), referring solo parents to needed services, and monitoring their situations in the community.

Since the rollout of the Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act, many issues have been raised regarding qualifications and required documents. DSWD FO 8 seeks to address these gaps through continuous orientations and partnerships with local government units.
