In 2019, the communities in Cabucgayan, Biliran prioritized Rainforestation projects under the DSWD Kalahi-CIDSS program, to lessen their susceptibility to flooding and landslides due to their location, unsustainable upland farming practice, and illegal collection.
As part of the program’s operation and maintenance activities, the LGU and communities will conduct a tree-planting activity. 1,500 seedlings will be planted throughout a 9.3 hectare landslide-prone area in Barangay Looc on June 18, 2021.
The community volunteers, community sectors, and military personnel are expected to join the activity.
Operation and maintenance is necessary to sustain the functionality of the project and ensure that it will be able to serve the people for many years to come.
The Disaster Risk-Reduction Management-Climate Change Adaptation (DRRM-CCA) efforts of DSWD Kalahi-CIDSS helps in building the resilience of Filipino communities. Further, the program takes DRRM-CCA efforts in order to increase the people’s capacity to address the potential impact of disasters.
Rainforestation is a technology developed and introduced by Visayas State University (VSU) to replace the destructive forms of kaingin practices, protect biodiversity, and help maintain the water cycle. VSU introduced the said technology through a series of trainings and provided communities with planting materials.
