As one of the poverty alleviation program of the government being implemented by DSWD, the Kapit-Bisig Laban sa Kahirapan- Comprehensive and Integrated Delivery of Social Services (KALAHI-CIDSS) continues its vision to provide resources to poor rural municipalities for public goods investment and promote people’s participation in governance.

The completion of 1,504 sub-projects across Eastern Visayas is a measurable testament of the commitment and dedication of communities in the operationalization of its localized decision-making activities. This is alongside the strengthened partnerships between the Barangay and Municipal Local Government Units, Municipal and Area Coordinating Teams, KALAHI-CIDSS Regional Program Management Office, DSWD, and its other partner stakeholders.

This accomplishment is equivalent to a total of Php 1,703,526,183.09 utilized funds for all modalities, including the implementation of the Philippine Multi-Sectoral Nutrition Project (PMNP).

Using the Community-Driven Development approach of the program, communities are given the opportunities to be empowered and capacitated through the participation of active community volunteers as they are given the power to decide, prioritize, and oversee the sub-project implementation.

Out of the total number of completed sub-projects, there are 461 (43%) in the entire province of Leyte, 382 (44%) in Samar, 189 (32%) in Northern Samar, 323 (70%) in Eastern Samar, 130 (94%) in Southern Leyte, and 19 (70%) in Biliran.

These sub-projects are responsive to community needs as the program aims to deliver services that communities prefer such as farm-to-market roads, drainage canals, improvement and rehabilitation of health centers, among others.

As this accounts to 48% of the program’s 3,214 target number of sub-projects this year, the remaining SPs are set to be completed before program closing in September.
