PALO, Leyte – The 20-day learning sessions for the DSWD Tara, Basa Tutoring Program (TBTP) in Samar Province has concluded on Friday, July 26, 2024, in time for the opening of the regular classes next week.
A total of 1,981 enlisted learners and 1,977 parents from two cities and 19 municipalities have completed the reading tutorials and Nanay-Tatay sessions, respectively.
To complement the identified number of learners and parents, a total of 375 students from Samar State University and Northwest Samar State University served as tutors and Youth Development Workers during the learning sessions.
Initially, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VIII has identified 2,000 learners and 2,000 parents, however, some withdrew from the program due to varied reasons such as transfer of residence, unavailability of parents because of work, among others. These were validated by community coordinators prior to official delisting.
To mark this milestone and recognize the harmonized efforts of both stakeholders and beneficiaries, schools and local government units have initiated culmination activities.
Certificates and special awards were given to both learners and parents, while other LGUs have distributed school supplies and prepared food for the beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, the DSWD Field Office 8 is set to conduct the series of payout to all beneficiaries starting August 1.
Under the program, tutors and YDWs will receive financial support equivalent to the prevailing daily minimum wage in the region covering the entire duration of the learning sessions, while parents or guardians will receive Php235 per day. ###
