DSWD Field Office VIII recognized Tutors and Youth Development Workers (YDWs) from Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU) on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, for the successful implementation of the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program in Samar province.

During the culminating activity at NwSSU Campus in Calbayog City, these student-tutors and YDWs received certificate of recognition and token from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

This is on top of the cash incentive they received in August for completing the 20-day learning sessions for learners and parents from July 1 to 26, 2024.

RD Grace Subong of the DSWD Field Office VIII witnessed the culminating activity and expressed her gratitude to all the involved stakeholders who were also awarded plaque of recognition for their significant contribution to the program.

“There is one thing in common from all the messages and testimonies I heard from our stakeholders and beneficiaries, that the program made a significant impact to the lives of our learners, parents, and students,” she said in her closing remarks, emphasizing that the success of the program was not possible with DSWD alone.

Several stakeholders attended the activity, including NWSSU, DepEd Calbayog City Division, the Provincial Government of Samar, and the six local government units covered in the 1st district of Samar.

Overall, the program served a total of 1,981 learners, 1977 parents, and 375 college students from NwSSU and Samar State University across two cities and 19 municipalities in the province. ###
