Ongoing verification and validation efforts in various municipalities in Eastern Visayas have significantly increased the number of beneficiaries eligible for the Walang Gutom Program, the government’s flagship program against involuntary hunger. As of the latest update, the total number of beneficiaries has risen to 24,149, marking a notable milestone in the full-scale rollout of the program in the region.
Over 900 new beneficiaries were registered in the municipalities of Oras, San Policarpio, and Jipapad in Eastern Samar province, in the most recent validation activities. Our validators also utilized the Walang Gutom Indicator (WaGI) tool in determining the eligibility of beneficiaries in the municipalities of Liloan, San Juan, and Silago in Southern Leyte.
Beneficiary numbers also increased in the City of Baybay in Leyte, municipalities of Mapanas and San Roque in Northern Samar, as well as in Palompon, Leyte, and Tagapul-an in Samar.
As the program’s reach expands, the Walang Gutom Program aims to reduce the incidence of malnutrition and hunger in low-income households in Eastern Visayas and the entire Philippines.
