The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Eastern Visayas has begun the series of community assemblies as part of the social preparation activities for this year’s expansion of Tara, Basa Tutoring Program (TBTP).

Since last week, TBTP community coordinators successfully conducted the activity in the cities of Tacloban and Ormoc, and the municipalities of Paranas, Jiabong, Pinabacdao, San Jorge, and Villareal all in Samar province.

The series of community assemblies which aims to orient parents on the components of the program and their roles and responsibilities will run until this week ahead of the capability building activities for the college student-beneficiaries.

For the 2025 expansion in the region, the department has a total target of 1,508 college students, 5,040 learners, and 5,040 parents.

TBTP is a reformatted educational assistance for college students from low-income families who will be deployed as tutors and Youth Development Workers to conduct reading tutorials to struggling or non-reader pupils and carry out the Nanay-Tatay sessions to the parents of the learners.

In return, the student-beneficiaries will receive a daily pay equivalent to the Regional Daily Minimum Wage for the 20-days learning sessions set Meanwhile, parents will receive a Php235 daily allowance for the duration of the program.

This year the 20-day learning sessions will be conducted between May 19 to June 13, 2025.
