A total of 1,500 beneficiaries in Tacloban City have started their 20-day work under the joint implementation of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VIII’s Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished (Project LAWA at BINHI) and the Department of Labor and Employment’s (DOLE) Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.
Following the program’s kickoff on April 24, 2025, beneficiaries started working on various community-based projects such as soil preparation, planting of vegetables like okra, pechay, cassava, malunggay, eggplant, and string beans, as well as the repair, rehabilitation, and maintenance of water sources, including deep wells and reservoirs. Many participants are also using organic fertilizers in their BINHI projects.
Project LAWA at BINHI, in partnership with TUPAD, provides short-term employment to residents in areas most vulnerable to the effects of climate change. It also aims to address long-term issues related to water scarcity and food insecurity.
