The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) distributed kits and materials for tutors and Youth Development Workers (YDWs) of Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program in Northwest Samar State University (NwSSU), Calbayog City.
A total of 194 tutors and 97 YDWs received a tote bag containing umbrella, tumbler, and various school supplies they can use in making instructional materials for the 20-day learning sessions starting May 19, 2025.
Dr. Benjamin Pecayo, the university president, some faculty members of NwSSU, and school principals of the recipient public elementary schools attended the pre-deployment activity on Thursday.
TBTP is a reformatted educational assistance for college students from low-income families who will be deployed as tutors and YDWs to conduct reading tutorials to struggling or non-reader pupils and carry out the Nanay-Tatay sessions to the parents of the learners.
In return, the student-beneficiaries will receive a daily pay equivalent to the Regional Daily Minimum Wage for the 20-days learning sessions set between May 19 to June 13, 2025.
This year, the DSWD will expand the program covering Samar province and the cities of Tacloban and Ormoc in Leyte with a total target of 1,508 college students, 5,040 learners, and 5,040 parents.
