As part of the Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VIII’s (DSWD FO VIII) Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished (Project LAWA at BINHI), a newly constructed 500-square meter small farm reservoir is now set to benefit residents of Brgy. Tagacay, Sta. Rita, Samar.
The reservoir is expected to develop irrigation for the beneficiaries’ communal garden and soon support fish production. During a recent site monitoring by the Risk Resiliency Program – Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation (RRP-CCAM) technical staff, beneficiaries shared that the garden is already thriving with crops such as sitaw (string beans), ampalaya (bitter gourd), and kalabasa (squash). They are also awaiting the arrival of fingerlings to transform the reservoir into a fishpond.
This initiative highlights the agency’s ongoing commitment to strengthening climate-resilient and sustainable opportunities for vulnerable communities across Eastern Visayas.
