A total of 55 youth volunteers in Eastern Visayas are on the frontlines as part of DSWD’s Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program (TBTP) monitoring team this year.
39 of them are Sirak Kabataan members based in Samar province, 11 are members of the Pag-asa Youth Association of the Philippines – Tacloban City and five youth volunteers in Ormoc City.
They work hand in hand with TBTP community coordinators in monitoring the attendance of beneficiaries, documenting the ongoing sessions, coordinating urgent concerns, and disseminating advisories or announcements.
As its counterpart, the Provincial Government of Samar and City Government of Tacloban will provide a daily allowance to all involved youth volunteers.
In the region, the Department has a total target of 1,512 college students, 5,040 learners, and 5,040 parents.
The TBTP is a collaborative effort between the DepEd and DSWD designed to provide short-term employment and educational opportunities to underprivileged college students from state universities and local colleges through Cash-for-Work (CFW).
The student-beneficiaries will serve as tutors and Youth Development Workers (YDWs) to conduct reading tutorials to struggling or non-reader pupils and carry out the Nanay-Tatay sessions to the parents of learners, respectively.
By serving as tutors, YDWs, and youth volunteers, they are not only shaping the minds of our Filipino children, but also embody the program’s commitment to youth-led nation-building.
Now on its 3rd day, the program will run until June 13, 2025 just before the new school year starts.
