The implementation of the Local Adaptation to Water Access and Breaking Insufficiency through Nutritious Harvest for the Impoverished (Project LAWA at BINHI) officially kicked off on June 2, 2025, in Carigara, Leyte, in convergence with the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged Workers (TUPAD) program.
The initiative, led by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office VIII and the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Regional Office VIII, is expected to benefit 300 individuals. Spearheaded by the DOLE–North Leyte Field Office in partnership with the Municipal Government of Carigara, the kick-off event oriented beneficiaries on the components of the project and the convergence of the two agencies’ flagship programs.
Throughout the 20-day implementation, participants will do community-based projects focused on promoting water sufficiency and addressing food insecurity. These include constructing small farm reservoirs and developing communal gardens. Beneficiaries will receive compensation based on the region’s prevailing minimum wage.
