A total of 110 learners in Jiabong, Samar under the Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) received toys and school supplies during the Culminating Activity on Friday, June 13, 2025.

The activity marks the successful completion of the 20-day reading tutorials for the incoming Grade 2 pupils and Nanay-Tatay Sessions for the parents or guardians that started on May 19, 2025.

The Jiabong local government provided toys and school supplies as tokens to all learners just in time for the opening of the school year next week.

Meanwhile, the Samar Provincial Government provided additional school supplies to all beneficiaries in the province, which includes two cities and 12 municipalities.

For the 2025 expansion, DSWD Eastern Visayas’ beneficiaries include 1,512 college students, 5,040 learners, and 5,040 parents.

TBTP is a reformatted educational assistance for college students from low-income families who will be deployed as tutors and YDWs to conduct reading tutorials to struggling or non-reader pupils and carry out the Nanay-Tatay sessions to the parents of the learners.

In return, the student-beneficiaries will receive a daily pay equivalent to the Regional Daily Minimum Wage for the 20-days learning sessions set between May 19 to June 13, 2025.
